Power cut protection is an optional extra — it's not included as standard, but can be added at the time of installation or retrofitted later. It requires a Backup Gateway to be installed, which detects a grid outage and switches your home to battery power automatically within milliseconds. How long the backup lasts depends on your battery size and which circuits are covered — we'll help you size the system around what matters most. If this is important to you, mention it when you request a quote and we'll include it in the design.
No — you can charge a battery from the grid using a cheap overnight tariff like Octopus Go and use that stored energy during expensive peak hours. That said, solar and battery together is where you get the real benefit: generating, storing and using your own clean energy around the clock.
In most cases, yes. We regularly retrofit battery storage to existing solar installations. The right battery depends on your current inverter — we'll assess your setup before recommending anything, whether that's Powerwall, Fox ESS or SigenEnergy.
