Heat Pumps

With energy prices on the rise, we are looking for alternative heating options for our homes.
Heat pumps are a solution that offer real ‘fuel security’ giving you more control of your energy costs.

Thinking about home heating?

GOVERNMENT FUNDING AVAILABLE

Did you know that you could save £7,500 on the cost of a new renewable heating system with the Help of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme? Don’t miss out.

What is a heat pump and how does it work?

A heat pump system works like a refrigerator, but in reverse. A fridge chills the internal space by extracting the heat and expelling it via the coils at the back of the fridge. Reversing this process, a heat pump absorbs heat from the outside air. This heat is concentrated via a cycle of evaporation and compression, then transferred into your home’s central heating and hot water system.

Installation

The installation is flexible and is designed to suit the majority of requirements.
The outdoor unit is quiet* and is usually located on the ground near to the house. It can also be located on the wall, a flat roof or up to 30m from your home.
The indoor unit and hot water tank often go in an airing cupboard , utility room or garage. In high temperature systems, the existing radiators can often be retained and the hot water cylinder can be stacked on top of the floor standing indoor unit to save space. The heat pump can also be connected to a solar thermal system for even greater hot water efficiencies.

HEAT PUMPS ARE UP TO 300% EFFICIENT*

Heat pumps are much more efficient than even the most economical fossil fuel boiler, so they provide a real alternative to oil heating.

Air to water heat pumps are incredibly efficient and reliable whatever the weather and extract heat from the air to warm your home, even on the coldest days. They can save money on your energy bills, while you enjoy a heating and hot water system that is easy to control.

Air-to-water heat pump solutions are available to suit all your heating needs:

  • Get heating and hot water all in one
  • Renovate and replace your gas or LPG boiler
  • Renovate and replace your oil heating
  • Renovate and replace your electric heating

HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION

We will assess the suitability of your home and discuss heat pump installation options and other energy efficiency improvements.

We can advise on:
  • How energy efficient and well insulated your home is.
  • The space available inside and outside your home.
  • Whether you want a simple boiler replacement or an entirely new heating system.
  • Installation options and the potential energy savings you can expect to enjoy.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE BOILER UPGRADE SCHEME?

If you are applying for funding, you’ll need to have an Energy Performance Certificate, get insulation if required, and select both an MCS accredited installer as well as an MCS certified renewable heating system.

IS PLANNING NEEDED?

Installing a heat pump on domestic premises in England is considered to be permitted development, so installing a heat pump does not usually require planning permission as long as all limits and conditions are met.

Underfloor Heating

Energize can offer warm water underfloor heating as part of our heat pump installation. It is a highly effective and efficient method of heating. It is suitable for a wide range of projects, whether a new build, renovation or single area. Underfloor heating is more efficient than radiators as it works at much lower flow temperatures. This makes it ideal for heat pumps, which provide optimum efficiency at low temperatures.
Highly efficient

Warm water UFH uses far lower flow temperatures than a traditional radiator system. Because it covers a much larger surface area it is still able to heat the room effectively. For this reason, underfloor heating is around 25% more efficient than a radiator system.

Perfectly suited to open plan living

UFH is an ‘invisible’ heating system as the tube is hidden beneath the floor. This frees up wall space, ideal for open plan living and rooms such as kitchens where space is at a premium.

Safe

UFH has no exposed hot or sharp edges – a safe option for young children and the elderly. It’s great for allergy sufferers as it provides warmth free from draughts and dust movement that can aggravate conditions.

Comfortable

With UFH, the heat gently emits upwards from the floor. This gives the luxurious feel of warm feet and a cool head without any cold spots found common with radiators. UFH also warms any usually cold floor coverings, such as tiles or engineered wood.
